Specialty Rail Grinding

Fast Response and Fully Capable

The Loram RGT Quick-Deploy Rail Grinder is a hi-rail equipped DOT certified 5th wheel rail grinder able to travel on virtually any North American roadway without any need for special permits. It features a fully-flexible rail grinding buggy with 8 stones, each powered by a 30 HP grinding motor to deliver the most finishing power and capabilities of any truck-mounted solution. Plus, Loram-developed and proven 6” and 10” diameter grinding stones are optimized for performance and life to achieve rail finishes from heavy metal removal to super smooth mirror finish –or any combination of both– in fewer passes. Designed to optimize short service windows, the RGT can deploy or be recovered in as few as 5 minutes at a rail access point near a service destination. Whether grinding switches, crossings, transit track, open rail or areas of general service or exception remediation, the RGT packs the rail grinding power and experience of Loram in the most flexible and transportable platform.

  • 8, 30 hp (22.4 kW) grinding modules can be outfitted with six (6) in. (150 mm) grinding stones to target track features and embedded rail or ten (10) in. (250 mm) grinding stones to address grinding Rail Exceptions on Open Rail
  • Grind speed: up to 5 mph (8 km/h)
  • Deployable and recoverable at 32 ft (9.8 m) wide rail access crossings with typical signaling devices near crossing or on crossings as small as 16 ft (4.9 m)with no signaling, or other, equipment near crossing
  • DOT compliant over road tractor trailer format that can travel at highway speeds without the requirement of special permits in North America and equipped with hi-rail capability for on-track travel
  • Crew consists of 2 people: Operator for over road, on track, deploy and recovery operations and one support person / general crew member. Cabin seating for 3 persons in consideration of railroad personnel supervision
  • Requires as few as 5-minutes to deploy and recover the machine inclusive of time from fouling track to time track is not fouled
  • Approximately 250 gal (947 L) onboard water storage, pump and hose for fire safety
  • Multiple hand pump water canisters and firefighting tools on board at easily accessible locations about machine
  • Extensive use of remote monitoring methods and techniques from the operator location minimize time required for operator to be exposed “on track” outside protection of vehicle enclosure
  • The grind control system is based off the proven Loram RGS software and hardware optimized for the RGT operating methods
